Miscellaneous Publications

Freemen of the Borough of Doncaster (1558 to 1962)
By Pamela Lindley
Extracted from the borough records and listed in surname order, are the details of the Freemen of Doncaster from 1558 to 1962.
This is not merely an index, the full information has been listed in five columns: to Surname, first name(s), date, their occupation, who apprenticed to, and a notes column (which often lists the reasons why they were granted this privilege)
Location: These are for sale only £2.00 each

Vol. 2 Surnames J to Z
Tradespeople and Craftsmen of the Doncaster Area (1834)
By Maureen Hambrecht
These books contain all the names, occupations and addresses of nearly 2,000 people who lived and
worked in and around Doncaster at this time.
Location: These are for sale only £2.00 each
Volume 1
In the Doncaster section of Pigots Commercial Directory (1834) there are 86 different alphabetical lists to look through. All these entries have been combined and indexed in alphabetical order.
Volume 2
Nearly 700 names are listed from the townships of Bawtry, Conisbrough, Tickhill and Wath together with their neighbourhoods.
Volume 3
Covering Hatfield, Thorne, Snaith, Goole and their neighbourhoods, including Rawcliffe, Old Goole, Swinefleet, Boothferry, Reedness & Thorne Waterside. Unfortunately, Pigot's Directory does not include the unskilled poor, who were the ancestors of many of us. However, if your ancestors did live in the area, they may be amongst the around 2,300 apprentices, tradespeople, craftsmen, professional people, clergy and gentry who are there, which will be a big help in locating them, especially if, like so many, they were so inconsiderate as to die just before Civil Registration.

Each entry records: Surname, first name(s), old township, new township, dependants, date and a notes column. There are a total of 693 entries.
