Publications list: The new list is ready for printing and distribution.
Policies and procedure: The risk assessment has been completed, discussions are continuing with the Archives as to their input.
Research Room: New year dividers for the fiche cabinets have been made to replace those which were particularly tatty; new quarter dividers will be made available shortly.
The suggestions box will be put in place shortly.
One or two of the fiche readers have broken pins on the glass raising mechanism we are looking at ways of repairing these.
The PCs are all quite old; one in particular keeps seizing up. It was decided that we should purchase three new machines equipped with XP software which will make it possible to set up administrator rights to protect them from prying fingers!
The possibility of establishing an internet link, via the Archives, will be discussed with the Archivist. One of the old PCs could be converted to stand alone mode.
It had been suggested that, as most census CDs have now been made available on the server, the discs could be loaned to members. The agreement on which they were supplied to the Society precludes this.
Society Patron: It was agreed that we should approach Lesley Garrett. She is a high profile Doncaster born celebrity with a known interest in family history. The Society President, Derek Palgrave will make a formal approach.
Computer Training: Doncaster College are prepared to run courses introducing basic Microsoft applications and culminating in Family History use via Adobe etc. Initial 'taster' sessions would be available at the Deaf School or the Research Room. It was agreed to pursue this with the College.
Society website: There have been some complaints about text size and duplication on the site. Clear instructions have been added on changing font size and no duplication has been found. A new area relating to committee members has been added. There is also a training page enabling on-line booking. The constitution is available on the website as are these notes of EC meetings.
